Some of my most memorable vacations have been on a beach, where I can feel the warm breeze, soak up the sun, and cool off in beautiful blue waters. When gray winter skies get me down or I just need a change of scenery, I know it must be time to pl...

View of Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun

Four nights and three full days in warm, sunny coastal Mexico was just what we needed after a long and dreary winter! Our family of four enjoyed a luxurious stay at the Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun, a 5-star all-inclusive resort located less than 35 minutes from the Cancun International Airport. Here are some of the highlights…

The Royalton Splash lobby area is open air and spacious with a laid-back beach vibe. The warm Gulf breeze flowed through the lobby, instantly lifting our grey winter moods.

All rooms at the resort are considered luxury junior suites. Various configurations from 1 king bed to 2 queens with sofa bed, to multi-room suites allow flexibility for larger families. There is also a Diamond Club Level for those who desire additional perks and comfort.

Royalton Splash is excellent for kids of all ages because of the variety of pool areas and water features. There are 5 pools (one is exclusive to Diamond Club only), plus a splash pad area with gentle water slides for younger kids, a long lazy river, and an area with 10 larger water slides for the more adventurous. The pools are not heated, but felt refreshing after spending some time in the hot sun! Several of the pools are zero entry and offer plenty of shelf area on which to sit, stay cool, and watch the kids swim. Two of the pools also offer a swim up bar, which is a fun treat for the kids (and the adults, actually).

The resort occupies a good length of beach, giving beachgoers plenty of space to spread out. The very same comfortable lounge chairs that are by the pool are also down on the beach, with umbrellas for a bit of shade. The hotel staff are often setting up beach activities like volley ball, or obstacle courses.

When you're feeling hungry, there are 10 restaurants in the all-inclusive dining plan, offering a variety of cuisines. Only one restaurant requires reservations - Zen, the hibachi grill. We enjoyed 4 delicious dinners at 4 separate restaurants. We all enjoyed a taste of India at Taj, which seemed to have a smaller crowd. Perhaps Indian food is a bit intimidating, but we found it very delicious. Agave’s Mexican dishes were wonderful, authentic, and filling. Zen’s hibachi was a terrific blend of great food and entertainment. And Rio’s Brazilian Grill was a meat lover's paradise.

Breakfast is served buffet style every morning at Gourmet Marche. There you can find plenty of cold and hot breakfast options. Kids can get their favorite boxed, sugary cereals while Mom and Dad enjoy a cooked to order omelet. Fresh fruit, yogurts, pastries, meats and cheeses are always available. Gourmet Marche is also open for lunch, along with dining pool side from one of two food trucks and at Nibbles, the snack bar. If a sweet treat is in order, Scoops Gelato is open all afternoon for a cool cone.

Day time and evening entertainment is planned daily and includes things like pool foam parties, magicians, performances by local artists, and a weekly white party. There is laser tag and video games available to keep the kids entertained and an on-site spa to pamper the adults.

If you’re looking for a sunny escape, check out Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun. It could be just what the winter doctor ordered!
