The Hawaiian Islands

My favorite thing about the Hawaiian Islands is the diversity of each. Which means you can have various experiences from one island to the next because they are all so different from each other.

My personal favorite is the Big Island of Ha...

Look Great When You Step Off an Overseas Flight

  • Stay hydrated! I have this at the top of the list for a good reason. It’s far too easily overlooked and yet it’s the single most important thing you can do for your body during a long-distance flight. Planes can get very dry. Flight attendants are often passing out drinking water throughout the flight, but you’ll want to have a stash of your own as well. So have a refillable water bottle with you. Fill it to the brim once you’ve passed through security. Test the bottle in advance to be sure that the top doesn’t pop open easily or leak. You’ll also want to have a light facial moisturizer, a good medicated lip balm, and non-greasy hand lotion.

  • Toothpaste and toothbrush – Hello cottonmouth! Blech!! Having a toothbrush and some minty toothpaste will help you to once again feel like a human and less like a primate.

  • Small bottle of hairspray, brush, and some bobby pins – for those with long hair, I found that putting my hair up in a loose messy bun worked perfectly for long-haul flights. You’re already a little messy - in a good way! And a messy bun is easy to fluff up and re-style before your plane lands with these little trinkets on hand.

  • Small makeup case with eye makeup remover wipes – Keep your makeup light. You’ll want to add some moisturizer to your face as needed through the flight. Eyeliner and mascara can smudge and flake leaving you looking like a raccoon! So having a few eye makeup remover wipes on hand is the way to go. Then touch up your makeup before landing.

  • Deodorant – not perfume!  First of all, please take a shower a few hours before you fly. Please. For your benefit and everyone else’s!  Please use deodorant. Please. Do not wear perfume. There are far too many people who are sensitive to various scents. And you don’t want to make someone else’s long haul flight miserable.

  • Comfy clothes and shoes – Do not wear pajamas! I get that you want to be comfy. But there are plenty of ways to do that without wearing pajamas. Find some soft leggings, a long cotton tunic, and a light sweater to throw over your shoulders in case you’re chilly. Add a light scarf around your neck and you’ll look cozy and stylish at the same time.
