Some of my most memorable vacations have been on a beach, where I can feel the warm breeze, soak up the sun, and cool off in beautiful blue waters. When gray winter skies get me down or I just need a change of scenery, I know it must be time to plan a tropical getaway.

I particularly enjoy the gulf coast of Mexico. The water is warm and calm, the sunshine is abundant and there are so many resorts to choose from.

Mexico, specifically the Cancun area, offers a variety of locations and all-inclusive resorts. The choices seem endless for a couples weekend away or a trip for the whole family. The Cancun international airport is a short flight from many East coast US airports, making Cancun an easy destination for a long weekend trip.

Exploring Volcanoes National Park

The Island of Hawai’i, also known as the Big Island and the largest of all the Hawaiian islands, is a truly remarkable place. From the moment your plane lands in Kona, you’re mesmerized by the landscape. It’s almost otherworldly. Made up of black volcanic rock, it seems like you might have landed on the moon or another planet! But, beyond the rough volcanic rock lies a beautiful, majestic island waiting to be discovered.

The Big Island is where you’ll find a variety of climate and landscapes. The west side is drier, while the east side is lush and tropical. Depending on the time of year you visit, there may even be snow at the peak of the island’s two active volcanoes. With such a diverse ecosystem, the Big Island offers the opportunity for a wide range of adventures.

Beautiful beaches abound, with plenty of resorts to fit various budgets. You’ll also find plenty of water sports, like snorkeling, diving, swimming with dolphins, or surfing. If you’re looking for a land adventure, then a day (or two) in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park is a must, where you can explore more than 500 square miles and experience the changing climate as you climb (or drive) to 13,000 feet above sea level.
